Oppose Casey Means for US Surgeon General
Urgent Action! Oppose Trump’s Pick for US Surgeon General by Tues, Feb 24th
Casey Means continues to be nominated by President Donald Trump as the next possible US Surgeon General, a position for which she is unqualified. If appointed, she would be the chief medical doctor and health educator for the United States. In this role, she would provide the public with available scientific information on how to improve health and lower the risk of illness and injury.
However, Means is unqualified for this position. Why is she unqualified?
Already, several key reasons have been extensively covered in the media. For starters, while Means completed medical school, she did not complete medical residency and has no active medical license. She uses her medical school training to lend false credibility to her statements and recommendations, many of which are not based on validated evidence. Not only that, Means has questioned the childhood vaccine schedule despite it being scientific evidence-based that is supported by groups such as the American Academy of Pediatrics. She also has a major financial conflict of interest through her company which sells so-called “natural” products with the intent to oppose conventional medicine and for personal financial gain. Although she plans to resign from her company if confirmed as the next Surgeon General, her conspiratorial and unscientific beliefs around autism, raw milk, and birth control, if exercised through policy, could cause grave harm to the public, especially as her platform and reach would expand exponentially due to the nomination. Further, she lacks professional experience and may be ill-equipped to handle a demanding position that requires fluency in public policy.
Each of these problems, taken alone, disqualifies Means for this position. Combined, they paint a powerful picture not only of an unqualified candidate but of one who would be deeply harmful to the future of health in America. In a time when public health is already under attack by RFK Jr. as Secretary of Health and Human Services, we must oppose Casey Means’ potential confirmation as Surgeon General.
We are grateful for your willingness to oppose Casey Means as the next US Surgeon General. Our movement needs to ensure that the person who serves as the nation’s chief medical officer provides the public with accurate information to improve health and reduce illness, is not swayed by private interests, and contributes scientifically to public health as a practice. We need a Surgeon General who will fight for our health, not their own financial pocket.
You can submit a letter opposing her confirmation to your Senators via our Action Network or contact members of Congress using their contact information, keeping our letter in full or editing it as you wish. Submit this by Tuesday, Feb 24, 2026.
Please personalize your letter. Letters to elected officials are most effective when they start with a brief personal comment (a sentence or two) about why and how these individuals could impact you, your loved ones, and/or your community.

Letter Subject: Oppose Casey Means’ Nomination for Surgeon General
Dear Member of Congress,
As your constituent, I ask you to oppose Casey Means’ nomination for US Surgeon General. As Surgeon General, Casey Means lacks the credentials, experience, and background necessary for this position. Not only does she lack these qualifications, but she also has a history of touting unproven approaches to medicine and conspiracy theories on vaccines and autism, which threaten the safety and public health of the American people.
Lacking an active medical license is only the start of what makes Means unqualified for such a vital role. Her unscientific and harmful beliefs in pseudoscience may cause many people to avoid vaccines, worsening public health threats, such as the increasing cases of measles. Her opposition to evidence-based recommendations from organizations like the American Academy of Pediatrics’ vaccine schedule would further undermine the importance of vaccines and accurate public health information. It would leave many confused and ill-informed about the necessity of vaccines and leave many more at risk of illness and death.
Further, Means’ history and financial ties in the so-called ‘wellness industry’ could cause her to continue the spread of misinformation while also benefiting financially. This conflict of interest is yet another key reason why I urge you to oppose Means for US Surgeon General. Public health should be backed by evidence-based science, not severed from it by a steamroller of financial ties that threaten to promote misinformation further.
Overall, Casey Means demonstrates a lack of experience and knowledge of evidence-based medicine, choosing instead to tout medical misinformation. She continues to deceive elected leaders and the public about important health information by promoting conspiracy theories about vaccines, raw milk, and birth control. Combined with financial conflicts of interest, she will play a significant role in undermining public health. We need you to hold a public hearing that denies her confirmation and instead confirms someone who supports evidence-based approaches to public health science.
Thank you for your time.

We appreciate your continued voices and advocacy for our collective health.
