Support Railroad Workers Fighting for Humane Conditions and Paid Sick Leave

We in the People’s CDC (peoplescdc.org) urge everyone to support the freight railroad workers’ demands for safe working conditions and sick leave. The RR workers get NO sick leave and NO regular schedules! They are always under their bosses’ thumb.  COVID shows how important sick leave is. Inhumane schedules, and denying sick leave, especially during a pandemic, increases illness, deaths, and disparities, especially among people already vulnerable to Covid.

Sick leave and humane scheduling will not ruin the companies financially. Paid sick leave only amounts to 3.5% of the industry’s soaring profits; in fact, over 50% of their revenue is profit.

Meanwhile, President Biden, the Democrats, and Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh pose as friends of labor while scabbing on the unions by passing legislation to prohibit striking, confirming that we cannot depend on these liberal politicians for a better life.

We can support any possible strike or other job actions with:

• walkouts, 

• calls to Congress, 

• donations, 

• rallies, 

• social media, 

• and participation on the picket lines.

A strike can improve the lives of railroad workers and set a standard for all workers. Paid sick leave should be a national policy, not one fought by one state or one company at a time. We should not be satisfied when any of our working-class families risk their health to increase the wealth of any corporate “robber baron.”
